How big is the hole in the ozone layer compared to a state?

Right now the ozone hole is about 24 million kilometers squared. The entire United States is about 9 million kilometers squared, so it isn’t easy to compare it to a state, but rather large countries.

Keep in mind that its not actually a hole in a Ozone layer, but rather a thinning of the layer of ozone that surrounds the planet.

In comparison to a state, or states, the ozone hole found above the Antartica is bigger than the 48 states that make the continental United States. The damage to the ozone isn’t limited to one hole but a series of holes over different portions of the earth.
