Pine bark beetles can vary in length from 1/10 – 1/4 inch.  Of these beetles, pine beetles average about 1/4 inch.  They primarily attack lodgepole, ponderosa, Scots, and limber pines in Colorado, Wyoming, and British Columbia.  However, most Western states are affected to some degree by pine beetles.
