Goldfish in the wild can grow up to 12-14 inches. Goldfish kept as pets cannot usually grow more than 6-8 inches. Pet goldfish will have to be taken care of in the best way possible for it to reach its maximum size. Goldfish owners can achieve this by feeding their fish high-protein food often, and keep the water temperature warm.
Goldfish can get up to 18”, but usually they are about 10” maximum in your fish tank, about 6-8 is average. They need a lot of room because everything they eat immediately goes through them so they can make quite a mess. If the tank is not big enough they will continue to grow on the inside, but not the outside and it cna lead to problems or death for the goldfish.
