The Giant Gippsland Earthworm, native to Australia, can grow to a meter in length – this is considered the largest known earthworm.  The genus Hormogaster accounts for some of the largest known earthworms, found in parts of the Mediterranean, especially Sicily.  Hormogaster earthworms have been discovered as large as 80 centimeters long.
