    The female black widow spider is about 1.5 inches across with splayed legs, about twice the size of the male.

    There are a few records for Black Widow Spiders, but there are also a number of different varieties.  The Western Black Widow is one of the largest web spinning spiders.  The female is generally larger than the male.  In general Black Widows can grow to about 1.5 inches in length and about .25 inch in width.  The scientific name is: Latrodectus hesperus.
