The asteroid belt is quite big. The largest asteroid that has been found in the asteroid belt is as big as Texas. The belt has more than 40,000 asteroids that are half a mile long. The elliptical orbit of the asteroid belt takes about 3 to 6 years to circle around the sun once.
The asteroid belt is located between Mars and Jupiter, and is about as large as 1/3 the distance between them. That would mean that around 50 million km (31 million miles) wide in 360 degrees, since the distance between the Mars and Jupiter on average is 150 million km (93 million miles). They are as far apart from each other as Earth is from the Sun.
