Although it shares the name of the well-known black and and white giant, red pandas are typically much smaller in size. Red pandas usually grow to the size of a house cat, with a head and body that can grow anywhere from 20-26 inches long (50-65 centimeters). However, their long tails add an additional 12-20 inches (30-50 centimeters). Red pandas typically weigh 12-20 pounds. The small mammal is a relative of both the giant panda and raccoon.
