Moose generally give birth to one but also up to three calves in the spring. The number of babies may affect their size much like with human babies. The average weight for a newborn calf is 30 pounds, ranging from 23 pounds up to 34 pounds. They grow very quickly, gaining up to a pound a day. At around the age of five days calves have grown so much in size and strength that they may be able to outrun an adult human being.
