How big is Antarctica supposed to be?

    It is truly mesmerizing and totally intimidating to try and imagine the size of the frozen continent:

    14 million sq km (280,000 sq km ice-free, 13.72 million sq km ice-covered).

    That’s 5.4 million square miles. It is the 5th largest continent after Asia, Africa, North and South America. It is also the coldest (obviously), driest and windiest continent.

Antarctica is about 1.4 times the size of the United States and about 58 times the size of the United Kingdom. The average thickness of ice in Antarctica is about 6,000 feet and it contains about 90 percent of the entire world’s ice.
