How bad is smoking for the environment?

Smoking effects the environment detrimentally through a variety of ways.  The tobacco industry itself is not the most eco-friendly industry in the first place.  There are also the cigarette butts, which litter the earth, and the paper that was used to make them in the first place.  Approximately 600 million trees are cut down to support the tobacco habit of the world.  Also, the tobacco plants need more nutrients than most other plants, so they degrade the soil.  The pesticides used on tobacco plantations is in vast amounts.
