In some areas of the world water shortages are a serious problem. Whether its due to lack of rainfall, poor infrastructure of water (aquaducts), or just lack of technology to clean the water, many developing nations in the world today reguarly suffer from water shortages.

Desalination is the process of turning non-drinkable water into drinkable water. Unfortunately, most of the places that really need this technology do not have access to it in high demand. This is known as the technogical gap or divide, and it is a problem facing many developing countries trying to modernize their infrastructure.
