The Great Barrier Reef is the worlds largest marine protected area at 348,000 square kilometers and has been managed by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park (GBRMP) since 1975. The GBRMP has been working to establish color-coded no-take zones that are prohibited or requiring permits to access in order to protect all 70 of the bioregions found there. The GBRMP has also begun to acknowledge the damage done to water quality from pollution and runoff and is establishing recovery efforts in partnership with teh Australian Federal overnment.
