Education is a very important key to conservation of any threatened or endangered species. A lot of times people do not realize that a species is threatened or why they should care about that species (perhaps it has medicinal value or is a good shade tree or perhaps it is the sole food for a certain type of animal). Once people are educated about the situation, they will tell their family and friends, helping to spread the word.
Hand-in-hand with education is the need for research. There are so many endangered or threatened organisms that we know very little about. We cannot protect them if we do not understand their biology and basic needs for life. We must study and try to learn as much as possible about the natural history of each organism.
well in the midwest the Ash tree is threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer, which rots the tree from the inside out. The way we are trying to save these trees is actually by cutting them all down. Basically to contain the spread of the bug.
this is also one of the things that started the “Don’t move firewood it BUGS me” bumper stickers
