Once a tree or shrub is infested with Bark Beetles it is very difficult to get rid of them, the only thing that can be done is removal of the tree and burning of its limbs and trunk to prevent the beetle from spreading to other near by trees. We try to avoid the problem in the first place with preventative measures. Dense strands of susceptible trees should be thinned, sick trees should be watched carefully and small signs of infestation in a previously unaffected area should be dealt with immediately. Also, biological predators can be used when an infestation breaks out to prevent the beetle population from growing to great sizes (however it will not save an already infested tree).
