How are we going to get the funding we need for our high speed rail system?

The economic stimulus package approved in February, 2009 included $8 billion for high-speed rail. The U.S. government has had to postpone awarding the stimulus dollars for high-speed rail because of the volume of applications they have received: $50 billion in requests from 24 different states. Originally hoping to award grants in October, the timetable has been pushed back until winter 2009 according to government officials.
