How are sinkholes formed

    Sinkholes typically form in areas where the ground underneath is made of limestone or other rocks easily eaten away by water.  Groundwater underneath the area slowly erodes the limestone, leading to the creation of massive underground caverns that often exist unknown to the people living above until they finally cave in.
