The Sierra Nevadas are and will continue to be seriously affected by a changing climate, particualrly one changing as rapidly as ours is right now. They will experience decreased snowpack through melting, an increase in colonization by invasive species that are better adapted to the new conditions, an increased threat of devastating wildfires, and other dangers. The loss of the snowpack will affect Californian drinking water, as well as the water supply of all other organisms in the region.
