In Connecticut an organization called the Connecticut River Watershed Council has a Water Quality Monitoring Project conducts in-stream analysis of dissolved oxygen, water temperature, conductivity, and clarity and is conducted regularly to check for bacteria in the river. The data collected provides information on the river’s health for not only for recreational users who have direct contact with the waters, but for local, state, and federal officials in addressing combined sewer overflow discharges and stormwater flows. This is in collaboration with the EPA and other nearby state agencies.
