There are many ways to reduce the amount of household waste produced. About one third of household trash is product packaging, so consumers must first try to buy products with limited packaging or made of recyclable materials. Avoid disposable and plastic items like water bottles. Buy in bulk and use reusable containers, such as glass bottles and travel mugs. It is really important to bring your own grocery bags and to know what can and can’t be recycled. Many people throw away all kinds of recyclables because they are unaware. Check with your local recycling agency, which usually also has separate recycling for e-waste. Cancel all unnecessary or junk mail. Also, starting a compost is easier then you might think and great for gardening.
