pollution in manali
Evidently, air pollution from cars and industry in the region is causing the ice to melt much more so than normal. The particles thrown into the air from carbon exhaust sources creates a layer of soot that blankets the area, which settles into the snow and accelerates melting. Also, much of the region’s water supply comes from the mountain tops and snow, and this can prove to be a problem for those drinking the water without some kind of filtration system. Due to high effect from strong winds, the soot can from from as far away as South East Asia and Europe.
