Gases like carbon dioxide and methane can cause respiratory conditions such as asthma, decreased lung capacity and increased chance for cancer. It can also negatively effect the immune system and increase blood pressure.
Greenhouse gases from fossil fuel burning can affect respiratory function; even breathing in greenhouse gases in an urban environment can lead to decreased lung capacity. Particulate matter emitted by automobiles (such as hydrocarbons) also has a detrimental effect on human health.
