The 2012 Chevy Volt has an average of 4.5/5 stars on Edmunds – consumers are saying the acceleration is good, it’s very economical, and that it does what GM says it will. However, a few have complained about problems in cold weather. The reviews have been mostly good though.
To expand on what valorie said, I have heard some positive things about the Volt from members of the electric auto association. However, there are also concerns that Chevrolet may have incorporated some planned obsolescence into the vehicle that will cause it to break down in five years. Electric motors last a very long time, and this may result in auto manufacturers not being able to sell quite as many vehicles as they are accustomed to selling if the cars last throughout the lifetime of their consumers instead of breaking down like internal combustion engine vehicles do.
