The people living around the area where the chemicalleak took place still endure several types of hardships. First, anyone exposed to the chemicals has a much higher potential of having children born with severe deformities and developmental disabilities. In certain areas, the groundwater used as drinking water is still not clean enough to drink, and can actually blister the skin. Greenpeace found in 1999 that there were known carcinogens and chemicals that cause miscarriages all over the area, and since then there has been no cleanup effort.
