Do you know what the largest size of animal a harris and red tail hawk can take down for falconry and what is the fastest prey it could catch in air/largest?
Hawks don’t typically catch prey midair. They are better at longer swooping dives to the ground, as they have broader, larger wings, which can help them carry prey away. Falcons have narrower wings which are better for midair turns and dives. Some larger red-tails have been known to catch small squirrels or rabbits and snakes, but typically stay with mice and rats. Because Harris hawks are slightly smaller, they usually will get mice, rats, lizards, and very occasionally, a small bird midair. Hope this helps!
