Have you ever seen a flourishing patch of land without decent soil? Healthy is a relative term-if there are enough nutrients and if there is enough moisture to support good specimens of whatever is growing there, the soil is healthy.
If you want a diverse array of plants in the ecosystem, healthy soil is recommended. However, if you aren’t in too much of a rush, and are fine keeping toxic waste from the ecosystems, ecosystems can bounce back, improving the soil quality as they go. It will take a long time to completely rid itself of all human interference, though.
