Hydro power supplies about 10% of America’s energy, but there are still waterways available to harness for energy. In California, where we have a lot of streams that gain momentum from mountains, 15% of energy is supplied through hydroelectric means. We could still use more hydroelectric energy. Earlier this year, President Barack Obama officially opened up federal waters for use with hydroelectric systems, as he announced on Earth Day (April 22, 2010). His intention and promise is increase America’s reliance on clean, renewable energy, so with this kind of federal backing, energy sources could significantly change in the near future.
