Many car manufacturers have slowed down their SUV production since 2008, when gas was high and demand was lower. Ford decreased the number of SUVs and pickup trucks it was producing and brought smaller family-sized cars that were originally only in Europe, like the Focus and the Fiesta, to the United States for 2010.
Also in 2008, Toyota announced it would reduce its SUV production by 10% from 2007 and 17% from 2006.
It’s safe to say this was a trend across the board. It was certainly linked to the gas prices but with the shift to smaller cars and an enhanced awareness of the negativity of the gas-guzzlers, it is likely to stay.
