The explanation that has been put forth was that there was “faulty communication” regarding the melting rate of the Himalayas. A scientist proposed to fix the incorrect statement (that the Himalayan Glaciers would be melted by 2035), but by the time the mistake had been caught, those responsible for changing the figure could not be notified before the incorrect one was published.
