Yes. Recent examples include a 6,000 gallon oil spill from Rockdale into the Des Plaines River in Februrary 2009 and in 2008 half a million gallons of fuel oil from New Orleans spilled into the Mississippi River.
On July 1st, 2011, due to a rupture in the pipeline, there was an ExxonMobil oil spill in the Yellowstone River of Montana. Though oil was found up to 240 miles down the river, the effects weren’t predicted to be as damaging as the other rather recent BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
