Have there been more or less babies born during the recession?

There was a significant drop in babies born in 2008, by almost 2% or 68,000 fewer than the year before. That trend has also carried over in 2009, bearing children are one of the biggest household costs. For many families, the men have been laid off, and if the women were to go on maternity leave, there would be no incoming income.
