Have scientists cloned anything that has not died soon after?

Yes. The most famous cloned mammal of all time, Dolly the Sheep, actually lived 7 years, and is not believed to have died from the effects of cloning. There are many types of cloning, almost none of it fits the science-fiction notion of cloning. But our ability to clone animals is progressing impressively, with many healthy clones having been made so far (admittedly from a limited variety of species). Check out the citation for a great breakdown of cloning.
