October 2010 reports claim the rinderpest virus has been eradicated. The rinderpest virus originated in Asia effecting cattle with symptoms of diarrhea and dehydration, with 80% of infected cattle dieing. Success of eradication was do to rinderpest staying a single strain virus. Rinderpest is only the second viral disease to be wiped out by humans. The other was smallpox about 30 years ago.
