have people died from bacteria in the water at the beach?

Many people have gotten sick from deadly bacteria from the beach sand and the water. There was on case in Florida where a man contracted a bacteria from oysters that were harvested off the coast of Panama City, Florida.

“Almost all raw oysters — and other raw seafood harvested from salty or brackish water that is warmer than 63 degrees Fahrenheit — contain the V. vulnificus bacteria, according to officials from the Bay County Health Department. After ingesting the bacteria, the infection usually manifests as diarrhea for people with healthy immune systems and no chronic liver disease, said Kalynn Pressly, an advanced registered nurse practitioner specialist at the health department”.

If you have a weakened immune system like this man had diabetes which resulted in the deadly bacteria spreading on his skin he could have died if they did not amputate one of his legs.

Naturally sheltered beach areas that can hold standing water can also have sand that is contaminated.
