Have MP3 songs been good for our environment?

    Good question, fuentes93.  It isn’t mp3s themselves that have necessarily helped the environment, but rather, the purchasing of albums online in mp3 form that has made a positive impact.  By buying albums online, you are eliminating the need for all of the production, packaging, and delivering of the cd you would have otherwise purchased.

    I think so because it means we save energy related to manufacturing, shipping, storing, and selling CDs. Read 2nd link below for more information. 

    There is also the issue of disposing of the cds. “According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), CDs and DVDs are typically manufactured by combining various mined metals (aluminum, gold, silver and nickel) with petroleum-derived plastics, lacquers and dyes.” This means that they are very difficult to recycle. Most recycling companies wont take them. So they end up in the landfill. To read more about environmental impact, read first link below.
