The renewable energy industry has been hurting this year due to the downfall of the economy. 500,000 clean energy jobs were created between 2006 and 2007. Unfortunately, Management Information Services Inc. (MISI) said that the U.S. lost more than 500,000 clean energy jobs in January 2009, which means that more green jobs were lost in one month than all of the jobs that were created between 2006 and 2007.
The effects of the economic stimulus bill are beginning to become apparent for some green jobs, but times are still hard. Roger Bezdek, president of MISI, said, “Anecdotally, what we’re hearing is that the green and renewable industry is really experiencing hard times in the past year.”
On another note, the American Solar Energy Society predicts that 1 out of 4 workers in the U.S. could be working in the renewable energy industry or the energy efficiency industry by 2030.
