Have Asian carp overtaken lakes in the past?

Over the past few years this is a growing concern for the Great Lakes area of Chicago.  Feeding off plankton and thrashing in shallow water, they can destroy the delicate balance of the water’s ecosystem.  Carp is able to migrate to different waterways through flooding.  Because of the ability to use flooding to migrate and their eating habits, Carp are invasive fish, worrying water officials.
