While I have not heard of any recent cases, it is possible. Sometimes there are simply too few of a species left to get them to repopulate. Other animals are difficult to breed and take a long time to mature in the womb. Such is the case with pandas, who researchers have been trying to protect for decades with difficulty. In the long run, we should be focusing more on protecting the habitats in which these animals live so we don’t have to take their lives into our own hands.
