Have any large environmentally focused museums had to close their doors thanks to the recession?

I am not aware of any museums that have had to completely close their doors. There may be small museums around the country that have had to do just this or perhaps have reduced the number of hours they are open or ask for volunteers to open the doors. However, many museums have had to cut back on their number of staff and special programs. Special programs may include important research in the neighboring communities or in critical habitats around the world. They also may have cutback or eliminated programs and seminars for the general public and for children. Museums depend on funds from a variety of sources, including private donations. Everyone can chip in a little to their local museum and try to keep these important education institutions open.
