So far, the United States, the UK, and France have all backed the proposal to ban the harvesting of bluefin tuna. Many countries, including Japan, Greece, Spain, and Malta, are rejecting the proposal on claims that their fishing industry (all large major parts of these countries’ economy) will suffer.
Greenpeace was surprised by the delays in passing the ban, and fear that such delays could threaten extinction.
