Walmart hosted a Sustainability Milestone Meeting on July 16, 2009, where information regarding their work to accelerate and broaden the companies sustainability efforts. The answer to this question depends on how you define “green company.” In 2005 Wal-Mart announced that their goals included: To be supplied 100 percent by renewable energy, To create zero waste, and To sell products that sustain resourc-es and the environment. Have these goals been reached? The answer is decidedly a no. However, Wal-Mart is definitely trying to change their image, as some conscientious consumers stopped shopping at the establishment due to their cheap and environmentally/socially harmful manufacturing processes, as well as alleged mistreatment of employees.
