Has the UK been able to reduce their oil consumption since 2000?

The UK’s oil consumption was relatively flat from the early ’90s until about 2005, when it was about 1.8 million barrels per day. That has declined some to about 1.67 million b/d in 2009. This decline coincides closely with the fact that the UK went from being a net exporter of oil to a net importer in 2006.
