Has there ever been such a thing as a marsupial lion?

The marsupial lion is an extinct species of carnivorous mammal that lived in Australia. It was the largest land predator that the landmass had ever seen. It had the distinct characteristic of carrying its young in a pouch like marsupials do, but was called a “lion” due to its teeth being more closely related to predatory animals like canines and felines. Its existence spanned early to late Pleistocene.
