Tesla has made many statements about the up coming Model S which describe price, variability, design, and capabilities. It is set to cost $49,900 and is being compared to the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes Benz E-Class in terms of style. Customers will have a choice between three battery packs, though the price of each has not been stated. There will be a 160 mile, 220 mile, or a 300 mile battery option. It has been described as low but spacious and features a panoramic roof. Less is known about the $30,000 car Tesla expects by 2014, but a prototype will be released in late 2011. It will be a commercial van based on the same “platform” as the Model S.
