    Selenium can have short and long-term effects on livestock and humans. Selenium can build up in plants that animals eat and cause “Blind staggers” (from shor-term consumption) or Alkali disease (from long-term consumption). The symptoms of “Blind staggers” range from impaired vision and reduced food and water consumption to paralysis.
