Has the recession caused more people to join the military?

Initially, a rise in recruitment did take place in the military near the beginning of the recession. To most people, it was a guaranteed income with benefits for themselves and family. Unfortunately, since the defense budget has been virtually halved from what it was during the last presidential administration, salaries and benefits have dropped for active duty and reservists abroad. I remember a news story not to long ago saying that military benefits where going to be cut drastically from the budget, which may ward off any more potential recruits.
