Has the popularity of HDTV sets over standard CRT sets made an impact on U.S. energy use?

Probably. LCD TVs use less power than CRTs, which means that the more people who replace their old CRT sets with LCD TVs, the less power we’re using on the whole. A comparison of a 15″ LCD with a 17″ CRT shows that the LCD TV uses 55 watts less than the CRT.
