Not particularly. The majority of teens, the demographic who texts and drives the most, ignore the regulations regarding texting. In 2007 alone, driver distractions including texting were responsible for nearly 1,000 accidents involving 16 and 17 year-olds. Teens admit that texting is the number one driver distraction.

Many states have laws that prohibit texting while driving. It will take a little while to determine how effective the laws are, because data must be compiled for several months after the law goes into effect.

Lots of drivers are unaware of the law. Tickets have been written because people still text in plain view of a police officer. Cops say that it’s difficult to tell whether a person is texting, so many drivers probably still get away with it.
