It’s next impossible to answer this question accurately, considering that fluctuations in population, manufacturing, and publishing would have to be factored in to the equation and you’d be attempting to compare two sets of data that don’t exist. Although magazine and newspaper production has surely decreased since they became available online, the increase in online shopping has resulted in a huge boost in packaging materials. Plus, many people in many communities still prefer to keep things old-fashioned and Internet-free. It’s really a toss-up.
