Much has been made in the media of how green energy industries have benefited from the economic stimulus. It’s true that the stimulus passed earlier this year included one of the largest investments in renewable energy and efficiency the US has ever made, and it has given much-needed help to many green industries that also create new jobs for Americans. However, the truth is that only about 10% of the stimulus actually was set aside for green energy. The great majority of the money went to more traditional industries that were seen as important to reviving the economy. So while it’s true that the stimulus gave an important boost green technology, the degree to which it focused on green industries has been overblown in popular discussion.
