The Cove is said to be “one of the best reviewed films of the year.” It has earned over 30 top audience choice awards from festivals around the world, including the famous Sundance Film Festival. The New York Times called The Cove “one of the most audacious and perilous operations in the history of the conservation movement.”
Louie Psihoyos, the director, has said that the film is inspiring people to become activists.
The Cove did a great job, at least in my opinion, of educating people on the brutalities that the dolphins face. People are now aware of what happens to those dolphins and there are many organizations that are furthering the movie’s message and trying to stop the dolphin slayings. People, sickened by what they saw in the movie, are more supportive of these causes.
Absolutely – it may have even stopped dolphin slaughter in Japan. The town that was in the movie, Taiji, released dolphins instead of killing them shortly after the movie came out. Not many films can say they’ve made that direct of an impact!
